| (1) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES SERIES 3600, MODEL 100T-HP, 120-TON HOT PRESS WITH A 28"W X 30"D X 24"H ALL MOLY ZONE: The latest addition to Refrec Systems' line of MIL-SPEC approved furnaces is rated to 1700°C in vacuum conditions of 10-6 torr or better. The system has demonstrated temperature uniformity of better than ±10°F and has automatic gas controls to run partial pressures of hydrogen or any desired inert gas. The hot zone in this furnace has 3/8" diameter rod molybdenum heating elements for long life at temperatures over 1400°C. Furnace surveys and calibrations for this system are independently certified to exceed the requirements of AMS-2750B and AMS-H-6875A every 90 days. For diffusion bonding purposes, a hydraulic loading ram assembly is capable of dynamic loads of up to 120 tons. |
| (2) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES SERIES 3600, MODEL 5236, 120 TON HOT PRESS/VACUUM
FURNACE WITH A 26"W X 26"D X 22"H TUNGSTEN ELEMENT GRAPHITE HOT ZONE:
The furnace
is capable of temperatures above 1800°C in vacuum conditions of 10-5
torr or better. The system has demonstrated temperature uniformity better
than ±10°F and also includes gas manifolding and controls to
run partial pressures of hydrogen or any desired inert gas. Furnace surveys
and calibrations for this system are independently certified to exceed
the requirements of AMS 2750B and AMS-H-6875A every 90 days. For diffusion
bonding purposes, a hydraulic loading ram assembly is capable of dynamic
loads of up to 120 tons. |
| (3) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES SERIES 3600, MODEL 3630, 30 TON HOT PRESS/VACUUM FURNACE WITH 18" x 18" x 30" ALL MOLY HOT ZONE. The system is configured with a cryotrapped Varian VHS-6 diffusion pump stack, and has only been used with low vapor pressure braze alloys to keep the hot zone "titanium clean". This system includes gas manifolding and controls to run purified hydrogen or any inert gas partial pressure operations which may be desired. Furnace surveys and calibrations for this system are independently certified to exceed the requirements of AMS 2750B and MIL-H-6875H every 90 days. The moly zone maximum operating temperature is 1230°C, but the system is also configured with induction power feedthroughs. |
| (4) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES, SERIES 3600, MODEL 4236, 30 TON HOT EJECTION VACUUM HOT PRESS WITH INDUCTION HEATED 8" ID x 10" TALL GRAPHITE HOT ZONE. The system is configured with a cryotrapped diffusion pump stack, and has two independent 2.5" rams which stroke 16" through a water cooled die support plate. The system has been previously run at temperatures over 2800°C, using less than half of the available power supply. Instrumentation includes, two pyrometers, and both tungsten-rhenium and platinum- rhodium thermocouples for measuring temperatures to 3000°C. |
| (5) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES, SERIES 3600, MODEL 3-2000, 30 TON HOT EJECTION HOT PRESS WITH 12" X 12" X 12" TUNGSTEN ELEMENT GRAPHITE HOT ZONE. The system also has induction power feedthroughs within the 24" ID x 20" deep vacuum vessel for use at temperatures above 3000°C. The system is capable of operations at 2 x 10-6 torr vacuum levels with full AMS/MIL-SPEC certifications and recording with the tungsten resistance furnace installed, to 1230°C. |
| (6) | REFRAC SYSTEMS CUSTOM BUILT, 10 TON HOT PRESS/HARD VACUUM FURNACE WITH A 5"W x 6"H x 8"D TUNGSTEN ELEMENT GRAPHITE HOT ZONE. This system also has induction power feedthroughs within the 22" ID x 20" deep vacuum vessel and a 5.5" ID x 10" heated length vacuum casting retort. The VIM retort includes a microprocessor controlled mold preheat capability, with an independent large gas volume vacuum pumping system, and a separate mold quench cooling system. The system can also be easily configured to perform powder atomization or rapid solidification studies. Currently, the resistance hot zone system is limited to the melting point of the thermocouple insulators (alumina), using about 10% of the available resistance power supply. The upper temperature limitation using the induction heat power supply is not known, but it is above 3000°C. |
| (7) | REFRAC SYSTEMS CUSTOM BUILT, INDUCTION HEATED, ROUGH VACUUM AND CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE, 10 TON HOT PRESS. This system is used for performing rapid characterization of gas/metal reactions and for the low cost determination of brazing, sintering and diffusion bonding process parameters. This system has been run with a number of unique atmospheric conditions such as anhydrous HCL and pure chlorine at 2200°C. We will consider any reasonable request for hazardous environments/systems within this furnace, including elevated temperature burst testing, or pure oxygen exposures/ignition events. |
| (1) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES/REFRAC SYSTEMS CUSTOM, SYSTEM 7 VACUUM FURNACE (NUMBER 1). This horizontal furnace has a tungsten element graphite hot zone with an effective size of 8"W x 8"H x 15"D, and is capable of temperatures in excess of 1900°C, at 2 x 10-6 torr. The system includes instrumentation and recording in full compliance with all applicable AMS/MIL-SPECS, limited to use below 1230°C. The vacuum pumping system also includes a high partial pressure control system for use with hydrogen/inert at pressures near atmospheric. |
| (2) | VACUUM INDUSTRIES/REFRAC SYSTEMS CUSTOM, SYSTEM 7 VACUUM FURNACE (NUMBER 2). This horizontal furnace may be configured identically to the furnace above, but is normally used as a vacuum arc melting system. Refrac Systems has numerous water- cooled copper molds for ingot, button, and rod shapes. The system contains both a consumable anode, and moveable non- consumable tungsten arc melting apparatus. The system also contains a water-cooled copper melting crucible with tilt-pour capability rated with a nominal volume of 250 ml. |
| (3) | CENTORR ASSOCIATES, INC., MODEL 60 TUNGSTEN VACUUM FURNACE This vertical furnace has an all tungsten hot zone with tungsten mesh heating elements with an effective size of 8" diameter x 12" tall, usable (as currently configured) to 2000°C. The system is ultra clean, and routinely achieves a vacuum level of mid 10-7Torr. The system can also be run with partial pressures of any neutral or reducing atmosphere (ultra-high purity hydrogen available). |
| (4) | LINDBERG VACUUM/CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE CRUCIBLE FURNACE WITHMICROPROCESSOR CONTROLS. The system contains a glowbar crucible furnace with an 9" ID x 18" tall Inconel vacuum retort. Argon and hydrogen purifiers are available for ultra high purity work. With the retort removed, the system can be run to 1450°C. This system is designed to be very fault tolerant, and includes automatic switch over from vacuum to inert gas for unattended continuous operations such as extended aging cycles. |
| (5) | JELRUS INC., CERA-MAT 5, VACUUM AND CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE VACUUM FURNACE. This benchtop system is rated to 1150°C and has a bottom loading tower sized at 3.5" ID x 3" tall. The system is rated for very rapid heating (+120°F/min), and can be used under rough vacuum, or any inert or mildly reducing gas atmosphere. |
| (1) | REFRAC SYSTEMS CUSTOM BUILT, HIGH FREQUENCY VACUUM INDUCTIONMELTING & GAS REACTION (RGA) STUDY APPARATUS. This small R & D apparatus contains a 10" OD x 12" tall pyrex bell jar within a 3" tall stainless steel feedthrough collar. The system is pumped with a Varian M-2 cryotrapped diffusion pump and contains an all manual stainless steel manifold with an Alcatel 2012C chemical resistant roughing pump. The system also contains the following: (a) UTI MODEL 100-C AMU RESIDUAL GAS ANALYZER, with Varian 20 LPS Vacion pump, and gas bleed control system. (b) LEPEL 2.5 KW 450 KHz INDUCTION POWER SUPPLY with feedthrough. (c) High current feedthroughs (2 ea). (d) 3 KW DC power supplies (2 ea @ 10 volts, 300 AMP). (e) Ferrofluidic 3/8" rotary motion feedthrough. |
| (2) | INDUCTOTHERM 35 KW, 300 VAC, 9600 HZ, LOW FREQUENCY VACUUM INDUCTION MELT POWER SUPPLY, HEAT EXCHANGER, AND POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM. The power supply can be run in both manual mode as well as microprocessor controlled with a two color optical pyrometer, or thermocouple control inputs (accepts a 4-20 ma signal). |

We also stock quite a bit of 2% thoriated tungsten up to 2" OD bar as well. |
